New The Last of Us photo shows off Pedro Pascal as Joel

HBO’s take on the award-winning game The Last of Us has fans chomping at the bit to get some more information about the show. Well, now we’ve got a first look at Pedro Pascal as Joel, the main protagonist from the first game.

It was only a few weeks back that our first look at HBO’s The Last of Us was a simple, but poignant picture of Joel and Ellie looking out into the distance. It felt (and more importantly) looked like the show had done a pretty good job at adapting the overall tone of the game in just a simple shot.

Now we’ve got a better look at Pedro Pascal as Joel, thanks to a photo from a Twitter account dedicated to the series, The Last of Us Updates.

You can check out the picture below:

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that it looked as though Joel is sporting the jacket he obtains during the University sequence in the first game. This is later on in the game, but fans worried about the HBO series cutting anything out should be aware that it’s natural for production to shoot scenes out of order.

As for Joel himself, he is considered a gruff, but respectable man who will do anything to get the job done. Probably because he doesn’t have too much to live for after the death of his daughter during the first few days of the Outbreak.

Regardless, it leads him to take a job from the Fireflies, a militia group of survivors who are both revered and feared among the minimal general population. Here he meets Ellie and they go on what we’d probably consider to be a road trip, if a road trip was paved along the way with a thousand different infected people that wanted to chomp your head off.

The relationship between Joel and Ellie starts frigid at first but quickly develops into something that resembles a father-daughter relationship. It’s very cute, and we’re excited to see how both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay bring new life into these well-loved characters.

As of now, The Last of Us HBO series does not have a confirmed release date.
