HBO reveals first look at The Last of Us TV adaptation

Yesterday’s Last of Us Day wasn’t as momentous as fans may have expected, but that didn’t stop HBO from giving us a nice little treat with the very first look at The Last of Us TV adaptation.

September 26th is a monumental day for fans of the survival horror game for two reasons. The first is because it’s the birthday of Joel Miller, the protagonist of the first game. The second is because it’s also the day that the Cordyceps infection broke out in-game, plunging the world into the apocalyptic world that players have made their playground in since 2013.

This year didn’t have too many big announcements in regards to future games, but Naughty Dog did release a limited edition statue manufactured by Dark Horse of the main man himself, Joel. It’s a big one, and pretty pricy, but considering it’s limited edition and it has everyone’s favourite dad involved, who’s to say it isn’t worth it? Other announcements involved a vinyl album of The Last of Us Part II, which isn’t necessarily new, but this one features Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker singing too.

As Today UK News expresses, it wasn’t the biggest of announcements from Naughty Dog. Thankfully, HBO saved the day.

And what a save it was. Players will recognize the familiar scene of Joel and Ellie looking out into the distance to see the destruction the Cordyceps infection has wrought on the world, and while there are affirming moments of tranquility as well, we think this first look really sums up the total devastation that our two protagonists will have to pick their way through.

For this HBO TV adaptation of The Last of Us, Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian) and Ellie by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones). While this is only the first look and we can’t see their faces, it definitely looks like a shot from the video game. Joel’s haggard stance, coupled with the familiar clothing on both of the characters… The adaptation looks promising so far.
