Gayming Awards Meet the Nominees: Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award
It’s becoming harder and harder to release a good indie project, which is why all of us at Gayming Mag cannot wait to celebrate these smaller developers with the title of Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game at this year’s Gayming Awards!
It’s an unfortunate fact that many creators know well; when it comes to queer content, big studios are reluctant to take a chance on new ideas. Yet despite this, indie developers persist, working with their teams to create enthralling games that speak to the awesome possibilities this medium holds. During a time when LGBTQ+ art continues to be attacked, we need these folks’ hard work more than ever. That’s why each of these games deserves to be celebrated for representing the indie space and helping make gaming more inclusive today.
Which project do you think will be taking home the Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award, sponsored by Dead by Daylight? Let’s take a look at these nominees now and see which small developer will win big at the 2026 Gayming Awards!

Date Everything!
Few games have revolutionised the dating sim genre like Date Everything!, the hit project that truly lives up to its title.
Players enter this world as an unlucky-in-love protagonist who learns that every single object in their home has a personality — and is just waiting to be flirted with. The project broke new ground for representation in gaming; its many characters cover a wide span of gender and sexual identities, with the protagonists’ ability to romance them all making this one of the queerest projects the medium has ever seen. It does all this while offering beautiful artwork and a stellar voice cast, reminding players of the amazing things indie developers can accomplish.
Date Everything! features not only fun gameplay but a level of representation that so many people need today. There’s no wonder why it’s been such a success, and there’s no wonder why it’s nominated for Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game at the 2026 Gayming Awards!

Quantum Witch
Quantum Witch deserves a huge round of applause — not only for the project’s amazing queer themes, but for the fact that it all came from a solo developer!
Created by NikkiJay, this narrative ‘plotformer’ allows players to unravel the horrific secrets of our main character, Ren’s, hometown. Amidst the multiversal conflict (which is all in a cute pixel style) is a story of queer self-discovery and the impact we make on the world around us. Each of Ren’s decisions shifts the literal physics of this world, reminding us all of our importance and the power that LGBTQ+ authenticity has on society.
Quantum Witch seamlessly intertwines queer topics with inventive mechanics to amplify a core message of our identities holding power. It is a true testament to the power of indie devs today, and it’s definitely a frontrunner for the Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award!

Spirit Swap
Some of the best games have places that you wish you could live in, settings so wonderful that players find themselves drawn in with every playthrough. Many games offered worlds just like these this year, but none managed to create a queer utopia like Spirit Swap.
A cozy puzzle game, players are guided through this land of lovable witches through Samar, a queer spellcaster. She coaches us with hilarious commentary while highlighting Spirt Swap’s casual queerness; its many characters cover the entire LGBTQ+ spectrum and are never forced to come out or explain their identity. The game fuses addicting puzzle games with a central narrative of LGBTQ+ community, making players want to beat every new puzzle while showing them the beauty of found family today.
Spirit Swap stands out as one of the funniest, most inclusive games of the year, with its nonstop representation providing at least one character that any queer person can see themselves in. It’s what has made the project such a fan-favorite, as well as a true contender for this year’s Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award!

Monster Prom 4: Monster Con
The Monster Prom franchise stands out as a trailblazer for inclusive gaming, with these dating sims being some of the first where players could actually pursue queer relationships! And the series continues to offer amazing representation with its latest installment: Monster Prom 4: Monster Con.
Monster Con sets players within the titular convention, where the world’s supernatural inhabitants gather to discuss video games, streaming, and every geeky thing imaginable! It has six characters for players to fall in love with — no matter their gender identity — with each one having unique romance routes that hilariously deconstruct tired queer stereotypes.
Monster Con is the latest example of how the Monster Prom series fights to make this medium more inclusive. It deserves all of the love it has already been receiving, and it may just take home the Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award!

Tales of Seikyu
No matter your identity, evolving into your truest self is a journey that many LGBTQ+ people are on today. Countless games try to capture that sense of transformation, but few do it as well as this year’s Tales of Seikyu.
This peaceful life simulation has it all; players can farm, fight, and even date the game’s large cast of characters. It’s the dating mechanic that has especially gained the game acclaim, as players can romance any NPC no matter their gender identity! Along with this, whether it be shifting seasons or players literally being able to transform their bodies, Tales of Seikyu captures the queer experience with its emphasis on the beauty that change can bring.
There’s never been a peaceful queer life simulation like Tales of Seikyu. It’s a true evolution for life sims, and it definitely deserves to be a nominee for this year’s Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game Award.

The Beekeeper’s Picnic
Famous detective Sherlock Holmes being in a passionate relationship with his partner, Dr. Watson, has been a headcanon for queer fans for literally centuries. And, luckily for LGBTQ+ gamers everywhere, indie developer Wonder Room Games decided to make that headcanon a reality with its new game The Beekeeper’s Picnic.
A point-and-click mystery, this game offers a queer vision of Holmes and Watson’s relationship that explores the quiet queerness many couples lived in during the 1920s. That’s not to say that it’s all about secrecy — funnily enough for a mystery game, the men’s love is evident throughout. But along with tasking players to find clues and uncover secrets, The Beekeeper’s Picnic shows how even in a world against them, individuals like this pair were still able to make a life with one another.
Whether you come for the point-and-click mysteries or LGBTQ+ romance, The Beekeeper’s Picnic is a must-play for anyone who always thought there was more to Holmes and Watson’s relationship than professional respect. It’s a fun take on characters people think they know well, and it may just earn itself the title of Best LGBTQ+ Indie Game!
