Streamer Spotlight: DragTrashly

The world of streaming has opened up new and exciting avenues for entertainment, with a variety of streamers around the world doing their utmost to foster communities and bring together likeminded people.

For LGBTQ+ streamers community, striking out against the norm, charity work and being a role-model is part of what makes streaming so fun and rewarding. That’s worth celebrating and to lead up to the Gayming Awards 2023, we’ll be highlighting each streamer who has been nominated for our LGBTQ Streamer of the Year, a category sponsored by Streamlabs.

Our third Gayming Awards 2023 Streamer Spotlight is DragTrashly.

DragTrashly is a fan of all things horror, with a particular favourite game of their’s being Dead by Daylight. They are a full-time content creator, and continues to build and foster their community.

How did you get into video games/streaming?

Streaming was my way to start learning drag! I worked full time as a programmer so it was difficult for me as most opportunities when you’re starting out as a drag artist are at bars and clubs late at night during the week. At some point I saw a video of the legendary Miss Coco Peru playing GTA V and I fell in love. I was already spending most my evenings gaming and I wanted to do drag more, so it made sense to do both!

What is your favourite thing to stream?

I play Dead by Daylight the most! I was invited into the Fog Whisperer (Dead by Daylight Partner) program and that has been, to me, one of my greatest acheivments as a streamer so far. I also enjoy streaming heavy story-based games like The Quarry or Detroit: Become Human. Sometimes I’ll stream “crystal ball readings,” “tarot card readings,” and “guided meditations” (all in quotes because it’s drag, honey).

What can people expect from your stream?

Love, laughter, chaos. I get bored doing the same things over and over again so I switch it up or make up events. Most recently I did a Dead by Daylight “Killer Cup” tournament in parallel with the World Cup (though with much less suffering, probably).

How has your experience as an out LGBTQ+/QTPOC streamer been?

My experience has been, overall, very wonderful and rewarding. I’ve made some of my best friends through streaming! There are frequent haters and trolls, but I am #BLESSED with an amazing team of moderators who protect me and the chat from the worst of it. One of the best parts of being an LGBTQ+ streamer is providing and being a part of a space where everyone can be themselves.

What do you do outside of streaming?

I create costumes (sew, style wigs, ect), maintain what I already have (clean wigs, drag room, ect). I also love to hang out with friends, play board games, watch tv/movies, sleep.

What do you enjoy the most about streaming?

First and foremost, my community. They are so funny and entertaining and they’re what makes my streams always a good night. My main goal is to entertain (I’m DragTrashly and I garbage CAN entertain you) so if I’m doing that then I’m in my element.

What have you learned about yourself through streaming?

I’ve truly learned to not fear being myself. Of course I am putting on heavy layers of makeup, wigs, and costumes that make me almost unrecognizable BUT I’ve learned to let my personality shine through.

What’s your main goal as a streamer for the future?

I used to have a goal of streaming full-time but, thanks to being laid off a couple months ago, I’ve been living the dream! I’d love to grow my community and be able to fully support myself. I just want to have the most fun and spread joy and laughter and chaos.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

Twitch-Con probably. Last October I got to see all my friends and perform on the main stage. I was on top of the world.

How does it feel to be nominated for Gayming Magazine’s Streamer of the Year?

I’m humbled and shooketh to be included along so many other excellent and entertaining LGBTQ+/QTPOC streamers. Mostly I’m excited I get to go to NYC for the awards show!!!

How do you think it’ll affect your streaming to win Streamer of the Year?

I hope it would bring in more lovely trashly critters to my amazing community. Let’s get this dumpster fire party started!
