Apex Legends Is Looking to Become More Than Just a Battle Royale Game

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 2 years since Apex Legends first made its way onto the scene, becoming a Battle Royale game that gained over 25 million players after its very first week. Even now, the game still has a large player base and is well-loved by fans.

As with all live service games however, Respawn Entertainment is looking to the future for Apex Legends and the future…well, it’s looking bright for the battle royale. After all, they did just release pansexual Legend, Fuse, yesterday.

In a blog post on the official EA website Chad Grenier, the game director of Apex Legends, talked more about the very start of development of the game – then called Apex Predators, the progress and excitement of seeing the game go live, and of course, the announcement that Apex Legends would be heading to both Switch and Mobile.

But that’s not all. Grenier also talked about the future of the battle royale game, and what that could feasibly look like. We still don’t know all the details, but Grenier mentioned that later on in the year they’d be introducing new ways to play Apex Legends that “take us beyond battle royale.”

What this could mean is up for speculation, as there have been a number of different things that players have asked the Respawn team for. One of those things is a story mode which, unlike the current state of Overwatch, has been trickled out through the use of comics, side quests, events, and voice lines.

There’s also Team Deathmatch, a multiplayer mode that’s popular for games like Call of Duty, as well as Capture the Flag/Point, something that has done well for games like Destiny 2, Paladins, and Overwatch. It may not be unique by any means, but some of the best things about Apex Legends have come from the unique events that they host.

We’re not sure what to expect from Respawn and Apex Legends in the future, but when we do know, we’ll be sure to talk about it!
