The Last of Us 2 has “gone gold” and guaranteed its release date

Neil Druckmann, game director of the hugely anticipated The Last of Us 2, has confirmed in a newly released video that the game has “gone gold” which means the game is ready for printing and distribution. This almost guarantees its new release date of 19th June.

In the video released by Naughty Dog, Druckmann confirms that the developer has submitted the gold master which means that production on discs can begin.

The Last of Us 2 has been plagued by delays and then announced it was being pushed back indefinitely as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. However, following a series of leaks, a June release date was announced and work was fast tracked to hit that date.

Druckmann addressed the leaks when he talked about how the story of TLOU2 left him “crying by the end of it” by saying that “nothing compares to playing this thing from beginning to end.”

He also praised the art direction, soundtrack and more, calling the game Naughty Dog’s “most ambitious game to date”, which might go some way to explaining the massive download size!
