Out Making Games launches with mission to unite UK’s LGBTQ+ games professionals
Out Making Games, a new network for LGBTQ+ professionals working in the UK’s video games industry launches this month, with a mission to unite and empower the intersectional LGBTQ+ community working in games.
The new organisation aims to build communities both in person with regular city based meet-up events, and online through a Slack channel where industry pros can come together to discuss, network, and share ideas. The network has been set up to support everyone, whether they are able to be out or not at their workplace.
The organisation also aims to create a welcoming space for the wider community such as LGBTQ+ people of colour, with an awareness of accessibility.
Out Making Games (or OMG for short!) is entirely volunteer run, with a leadership team that includes developers, producers, studio heads, PRs and lawyers all working in games. Out Making Games has been born out of a genuine passion to support LGBTQ+ folks either already working in, or aspiring to work in the industry.
The launch party for Out Making Games is taking place in Soho, London on Tuesday 19th November, with over 100+ LGBTQ+ and ally games professionals already signed up to attend. The event is generously supported by headline sponsor Sheridans, and will include a raffle to raise money for GamesAid. Tickets are free and available here: outmakinggames.eventbrite.com
Out Making Games also has plans to hold events outside of London in the near future to unite and include the community across the UK.
