Twitch removes LGB Alliance from charity list

Twitch, one of the most popular streaming websites in the world, came under fire last week after it announced they had added more charities to their charity tool for creators. However, one such charity that was added by Twitch was the LGB Alliance.

For those of you who are blissfully unaware of who the LGB Alliance is, let us explain. The LGB Alliance prides itself on being a charity that ‘protects’ lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals within the queer community. Notably, it has dropped the TQIA+ in LGBTQIA+ because, as the group itself has said on social media, adding the + to LGB would give way to “paraphilias like bestiality – and more – to be all part of one big happy “rainbow family.”

The group itself was founded in 2019, after a group of 22 people, including Stonewall’s co-founder Simon Fanshawe, as well as journalist Julie Bindel, published a letter in The Sunday Times. The letter effectively accused Stonewall of undermining “women’s sex-based rights and protections.”

“Twelve months ago, a group of LGB rights supporters asked Stonewall to “commit to fostering an atmosphere of respectful debate rather than demonising as transphobic those who wish to discuss, or dissent from, Stonewall’s transgender policies.” Since then, Stonewall has repeated refused requests to enter into any such dialogue.” The opening paragraph of the letter read.

So, with all of this in mind, the inclusion of LGB Alliance as a charity that Twitch streamers could donate money to was not looked at kindly – especially by LGBTQ+ streamers.

“Please remove the “LGB Alliance” they’re a hate group that actively targets LGBTQ+ people,” Twitch user The Serfs commented via Twitter.

After the announcement made on Friday, Twitch has since removed the LGB Alliance from its list of charities. We reached out to Twitch to find out more.

“Following a thorough review of this organization, we have removed them from our list of approved charities. Twitch does not allow charities that violate our hateful conduct policies on Twitch, or whose organization or leadership engage in or promote behaviors that violate our Off-Service policy.” Twitch told Gayming Magazine. “We include a wide range of organizations in Twitch charity so that streamers can choose which charities they align with and wish to support. Inclusion on this list is not an endorsement from Twitch. However, we regularly review the list and remove organizations that violate our policies.”

Unfortunately, Autism Speaks is still listed as an available charity despite a number of controversial and damaging stances the organization has taken. Despite this, the service has stated that Autism Speaks “does not violate our Off-Service policy.”
