Celeste studio announces new game Earthblade
Ever heard of a vibe check? Well, the Celeste studio, Extremely OK Games, have vibe revealed their brand new game, Earthblade. We don’t know what a vibe reveal is, but hey, we love the spirit and enthusiasm!
Announced via Twitter on Monday 19th, Earthblade has been described as a 2D ‘explor-action game in a seamless pixel art world.’ The reveal gave us our very first look at that pixel art world, with its lush greenery, gray, rocky outcrops and a faceless protagonist who watches it all. A lot of exciting stuff, and that’s not even mentioning the incredible music by Lena Raine that was teased too.
More details about the game was found from studio update, written by Extremely OK’s Director and Designer, Maddy Thorson. The game was originally titled EXOK4 for a long time during production, but after much searching, the studio has settled on the name Earthblade. And what better way to show that by giving a teaser online?
The teaser itself isn’t meant to give away too much information, but to give fans the sort of ‘vibe’ the studio is going for. We kind of get the feeling of old JRPGs of the past, like the first Final Fantasy game or Tales of Phantasia, particularly with the music and design of the logo from Pedro Medeiros.
But there’s a lot more to come. Since Celeste, the studio has been working hard on Earthblade and, as Thorson explains in the update, were wondering just how much they wanted to reveal. With Celeste, Extremely OK Games tweeted out whatever they were working on that looked cool and interesting, but for Earthblade the studio has held back. There is value in having an air of mystery, after all.
But, according to Thorson, the big reveal for Earthblade will be a while yet. But they’ve given you all fair warning in the meantime: “when we finally do show it off, be sure to point your feet away from animals and small children, and prepare for your footwear to be blasted clean off your feet.”
Exciting!
