Baldur’s Gate 3’s Most Popular Romance Isn’t Lae’zel For Some Weird Reason

Baldur’s Gate 3 may only be out on Early Access, but that hasn’t stopped players from spending hundreds of hours in the world of Faerûn. It also hasn’t stopped players from getting up close and personal with their companions. For me, my Baldur’s Gate 3 romance is with the Githyanki companion, Lae’zel. Of course, I haven’t had the chance to romance anyone else in my measly 30 hours, but I have to say that she’s my favourite so far.

According to the latest update from Larian Studios however, Lae’zel isn’t quite as popular as what I expected. She’s not the most popular romance at all actually. That title instead goes to the one party member who just can’t stop dying. Yes, I’m talking about Gale. Which is, uh, a little surprising considering the amount of thirst that I’ve seen for local vampire spawn, Astarion?

Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with Gale. He is certainly charming and is an overall good guy, but well, I just don’t get it. At least, to a certain extent. Then you read more from Larian Studio’s update, and you go ‘ah.’ Because the majority of players have played a ‘good’ character, something which coincides with Gale’s character. He is a nice guy, who likes it when you do kind things. Lae’zel, Astarion and even Shadowheart (who is the second most popular romance so far) only seem to approve if you’re looking out for yourself.

So, in a weird way, Gale being the most romanced makes sense, especially if you correlate it with how people are playing their characters. That’s fine and all, but I still don’t get it when Lae’zel is right there. Life continues to be a mystery.

In other news, this latest Baldur’s Gate 3 update came with some more stats outside of the romance department. For example, Scratch – the dog that you’re able to recruit into your camp – has been petted 400k times. Part of me wants to think that’s because everyone loves dogs, but a more cynical part knows it’s probably due to the exploit that lets you max out Gale and Shadowheart’s approval that way. There are more fun stats too, such as the knowledge that only 26.3% of players tried to suck a goblin toe. I don’t know whether to be disappointed or not.

Baldur’s Gate 3 still has a long way to go to being ‘finished’, but don’t let that stop you from diving right in if you’re interested. Check out our review to find out more of what you can expect from Larian Studios trek into the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Maybe you can discover why Lae’zel isn’t the most popular Baldur’s Gate 3 romance for me? I’m still confused.
