Solve the Mystery in The Sinking City
Summer is the perfect season for mystery, suspense and yes, a little bit of horror. Frogwares and Bigben Interactive are giving you your fix of all three with the release of The Sinking City; available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and XBox One starting 27 June 2019.
Inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, The Sinking City puts players in the shoes of a private detective and war veteran in the 1920’s as he searches Massachusetts for clues to the cause of nightmarish visions that plague him.
Developed by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, The Sinking City is receiving mixed reviews from critics. Destructoid says, “the atmosphere and world building of Oakmont, Massachusetts are just as deep as its fictional waters, with a story and murky sense of morality to match in the best possible ways,” while GamesRadar called it, “a detective game detached from the joy of discovery.”
The Sinking City is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and XBox starting tomorrow, 27 June 2019. A Nintendo Switch release date is slated for later this year.
Synopsis: Charles W. Reed, a U.S. Navy sailor and Great War veteran turned private investigator, travels from Boston to Oakmont at the invitation of intellectual Johannes van der Berg to discover the cause of the nightmarish visions that have been plaguing him for years, visions which are shared by numerous other people and most commonly occur in Oakmont. Reed is hired by Robert Throgmorton, the influential and physically striking head of one of Oakmont’s leading families who has also been studying the visions, to help uncover the cause of the Flood plaguing the town.
While Reed pursues this investigation and others using extrasensory powers of observation seemingly bestowed by his visions, uncovering the shadowy history and seedy underbelly of Oakmont along the way, he must guard his sanity as it is eroded by the town’s darkness, otherworldly creatures attracted to death called Wylebeasts, and the use of his own powers.
