Confetti’s Cozy Corner: Orela Rose – the first original transgender character in Dead by Daylight

A new survivor has entered the fog in Dead by Daylight’s newest survivor chapter Steady Pulse. This chapter centers on Orela Rose, an EMT whose perks reflect the the vibrancy of her personality.

Born to a firefighter dad and RN mother, Orela grew up on the northern side of Chicago in a loving home. Growing up seeing her parents’ careers in public service, she had strong ambitions and influence to follow in their footsteps.

When Orela entered her freshman year of college she chose to major in hospitality at Lakehead University where she met her best friend Emily. Emily was a HUGE horror fan, and often listened to horror podcasts such as ‘All Things Wicked This Night’ hosted by Sable Ward. One day, Orela and Emily had the cool idea to create the ultimate haunted house for Halloween in their college dorm, calling it the ‘The Haunted Madhouse of Doom’. They modeled their haunted house after an old insane asylum that had an electric shock therapy room [sound familiar?].

During one of the tours Orela was leading through the ‘The Haunted Madhouse of Doom’, Emily was playing the patient receiving electric shock therapy. The performance required Emily to adorn a fitted headpiece with electrodes on it and writhe in pain while groups walked by. However, when Orela’s group walked by an electric wire tripped causing an electrical current to surge through the electrodes, ultimately electrocuting Emily. Orela stopped the accident by unplugging the contraption and unfortunately witnessed her best friend fade before her eyes before EMTs arrived.

Orela immediately dropped out of college and chose to become an EMT to help others in need in emergency situations. She, as a natural, stayed calm in intense situations and enjoyed not only being able to give back but empowered to never be in a bad situation uninformed again.

On one of her many calls, Orela saved the life of billionaire, Jon Kingsly, who offered to fund her dream… well Emily’s dream… of creating the ultimate horror experience. After finding the perfect location and building a safe set, Orela created the horror experience of her and Emily’s dreams, that was open once a month to those who wanted to experience it.

Orela often laughed at haunted stories, never taking them seriously but enjoying the entertainment. That is until the mysterious Black Fog that abducts people she heard about in stories came for her. She called out for help but none ever came, but she did hear other cries for help calling out to her in the dark. While in the fog Orela, for the first time in a long time, felt spine tingling fear, but quickly snapped out of it when she remembered the cries for help and changed into EMT mode. Focused, sure of herself and calm.

Orela is canonically Transgender, as in her lore it’s mentioned that her friend Emily helped her with her transition. Dead by Daylight has always trail-blazed positive representation within the game – whether it’s through charms, lore, cosmetics or the characters themselves. While it is only one line in Orela’s lore, it’s a powerful line that can mean a lot to many people, especially those in the Trans community. Trans people are constantly under attack, especially Black Trans Women. Angelica Ross beautifully brings Orela to life in Dead By Daylight, and was a perfect casting. Seeing her voice acting work in the Dead By Daylight Anniversary stream was amazing.

Orela Rose 3 Survivor perks are as follows:

Rapid Response: If not exhausted, rush-exit a Locker to become exhausted and briefly revealing the Killer’s aura

Do No Harm: When you heal a Survivor, you will gain increased heal speed and great skill check progress for each Hook State they have

Duty of Care: When healthy, take a protection hit to give nearby Survivors a temporary haste boost

Between May 6th and May 23rd, Dead by Daylight will be donating all proceeds from Orela Rose’s Day Shift and Night Shift Outfits, featuring her in her EMT uniform, to CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation’s major funding campaign, Grow Beyond which aids pediatric health across Quebec.

It’s great to see Dead by Daylight continue their charity efforts within their local communities. There are more surprises to go along with this month long campaign, so stay tuned in to Dead By Daylight‘s socials for more information.
