New comic one shot Star Trek: Celebrations will center fan favorite LGBTQ+ characters

In an interview with ScreenRant released on February 12, IDW and Star Trek group editor Heather Antos revealed details about the upcoming comic book one shot Star Trek: Celebrations. This one shot will feature some of the most “badass” LGBTQ+ characters from the iconic sci-fi universe. It will release on May 29, just in time for Pride Month 2024 in the United States.

“Exclusive: STAR TREK: CELEBRATIONS To Give The Most ‘Badass’ LGBTQIA+ Heroes in The @StarTrek Universe The Spotlight in New Pride Special,” ScreenRant wrote on Twitter. “Get the first details on the new @IDWPublishing one-shot and creative team now.”

Star Trek: Celebrations will be an anthology of stories from multiple LGBTQ+ writers, including Vita Ayala, Mags Visaggio, and Steve Orlando. The rest of the creative team is currently still a secret, but IDW should reveal more soon. The cover was drawn by queer artist Paulina Ganucheau, and features several of the franchise’s LGBTQ+ characters, like Seven of Nine and Paul Stamets.

“Ya girl is writing a Star Trek,” Visaggio wrote on Twitter.

“What is Star Trek, if not the idea of celebrating the best of us, right?” Antos told ScreenRant. “The best of humanity, and coming together. There’s a really great quote from Gene Roddenberry that that’s the future he wants to see: a future where we are all not just tolerating one another, but celebrating one another.”

“That is the intention behind Celebrations, and where we get the title from. It’s wanting to celebrate the badasses of the Star Trek universe, whether that’s Culber and Stamets, whether that’s Mariner, whether that’s Seven and Raffi… there’s so many characters that we’re going to get to see explored here by some incredible, incredible writers.”

Fans can expect to pick up Star Trek: Celebrations when it releases on May 29, 2024.
