Bugsnax is now out on the App Store
On Wednesday, developer Young Horses announced that its wacky creature-catching game Bugsnax is now available on the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV for $9.99. This release also includes the Island of BIGsnax DLC content.
The App Store port of Bugsnax has a brand new control scheme based around touch controls. That said, it will also support “a wide array of third party gamepads.”
“Now that we’ve squeezed Bugsnax down to bite-size, it’s easier than ever to dig in,” said Kevin Zuhn, creative director at Young Horses in a press release. “Play it on the train, at a fancy restaurant, or in the corner of a party you didn’t want to be at; Bugsnax is always a great snack on the go! After just one taste, our funky little game will worm its way into your heart.”
Bugsnax follows the player character as they journey to Snaktooth Island, where they were invited to document the work of Elizabert Megafig. The disgraced researcher is studying legendary half-bug, half-snack creatures called — you guessed it — Bugsnax, and wants you to help her show this work off to the world to repair her reputation. But upon arriving on the island, you find that Elizabert is nowhere to be found and the other grumpuses who accompanied her — several of whom are LGBTQ+ — are scattered across the island. You’re left to solve the multitude of mysteries that have cropped up on Snaktooth if you want to escape with your story.
Doing this mostly entails capturing the different kinds of critters that occupy the island’s biomes and using their unique abilities to access new areas to find clues. Many of the grumpuses on the island will also request Bugsnax to eat themselves. Feeding them will turn their body parts into food items, allowing you to customize how they look.
Bugsnax is available for iOS devices on the App Store for $9.99.
