EMUHLEET and Rain part ways with Evil Geniuses

On Saturday, Evil Geniuses announced that the organization is parting ways with two of its professional Valorant Game Changers players, Emmalee “EMUHLEET” Garrido and Amanda “rain” Smith. This news came just before the 2022 Game Changers Championship in Berlin, Germany, which Evil Geniuses failed to qualify for.

Both players were with this squad since May 2020, when they were still signed to Dignitas. The entire former Dignitas squad moved to Evil Geniuses in August, where they went on to win this year’s Astral Clash LAN event. Despite this success, Evil Geniuses weren’t able to convert that into enough momentum to take down the North American monsters in Cloud9 White or Shopify Rebellion during the final Game Changers series of the year, and therefore were unable to qualify for the 2022 Championships.

EMUHLEET and rain are veterans in the tactical shooter space, having won five CS:GO championships before they made the switch to Valorant. They have remained together during their tenure in the VCT, but have not been able to replicate that success in Riot’s tactical shooter. Both rain and EMUHLEET posted that they are looking for teams and still want to compete. EMUHLEET’s Twitter bio also says that she’s a Valorant player for “??” which may indicate she’s already found a new team — though there’s obviously no confirmation of that at this time.

Where these two players will end up, as well as who will replace them on the Evil Geniuses roster are mysteries for now. With three players remaining and Christine Potter still on as head coach, it seems unlikely that EG will completely leave the Game Changers scene, but their future is still unknown. EG are not the only Game Changers team that have made a big change. TSM also recently announced that the entire TSM X roster was released, and that fans should keep an eye out for the organization’s plan for GC in 2023.
