Evil Geniuses announce women/marginalized gender Valorant team
On Thursday, esports organization Evil Geniuses announced that it has signed a second Valorant roster comprised of women. The roster is comprised of players and a coach who formerly competed for Dignitas in past Valorant Champions Tour Game Changers event.
The newly christened Evil Geniuses roster is as follows:
- Emmalee “EMUHLEET” Garrido (captain)
- Amanda “rain” Smith
- Liana “showliana” Maransaldi
- Melissa “theia” Mundorff
- Stefanie “Stefanie” Jones
- David “Xp3” Garrido (coach)
Dignitas announced the departure of the roster on Thurssday and Evil Geniuses followed with its own announcement. All five members of the roster and their coach were leaving after five years with the organization, and multiple Counter Strike: GO championships under their belts.
Despite that past success, the Dignitas Female squad were never able to pull themselves out of the third to fourth place slot within North American Game Changers competitions. The reigning champions, Cloud9 White, have maintained a stranglehold on the scene, with Shopify Rebellion consistently coming in second place. Now it looks like the squad will be continuing their fight to reach the top of the North American scene – and the world in November – with Evil Geniuses backing them.
How the change in organization will impact the new EG squad remains to be seen. The squad has managed to put up consistent results in the past, even if they weren’t able to climb all the way to the number one spot. Changing things up might be just what the doctor ordered to push this roster to the next level, but only time and competition will tell.
The Evil Geniuses roster will be able to show off any changes they’ve made during the third North American Game Changers series scheduled for October. Only two teams will advance to the Game Changers Championship LAN event in Berlin, Germany this November: the team that wins the third series, and the team with the most circuit points. Evil Geniuses will have a tough fight ahead of them to snatch one of these spots away from Cloud9 White and Shopify Rebellion.
