Life is Strange TV series adds Shawn Mendes as Executive Producer

It’s up to debate whether a Life is Strange TV series that’s being worked on by Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment is going to be any good or not, but considering that Shawn Mendes has just been brought on to be executive producer, we at least know that it’s probably going to be a little more musical than it originally was.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which states that the series will include Shawn Mendes “along with Andrew Gertler, his partner at Permanent Content” and that together they’ll oversee music for the Life is Strange TV series.

Mendes is known as being an award-winning musician, with hits like the ever-popular (and meme-worthy) ‘Senorita’, as well as ‘Stitches’ and ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back’. He is more of a pop star, which might feel a little out of place in comparison to the original Life is Strange soundtrack being more indie and soft rock at times. That said we don’t doubt that if anyone is up for the challenge of creating a soundtrack for the TV series of Life is Strange, then it’s probably Shawn Mendes.

The original Life is Strange first released back in 2015 and followed protagonist, Max Caulfield – a photography student who returns home to Arcadia Bay and discovers that she can rewind time. Along the way she gets caught up with her old best friend, Chloe Price and the mystery behind the disappearance of Rachel Amber. It’s through this journey that they discover that not only is there something darker about the town, but that some things just don’t have a happy ending, no matter how hard you try.

The game also spawned a huge, passionate community full of LGBT+ fans thanks to the relationships between Rachel and Chloe, as well as Max and Chloe. The series is well-loved amongst the queer community, and ever since then the series has released spin-offs, as well as prequels and comics where queer relationships are upfront and center. The newest Life is Strange game, True Colors, is set to release on September 10, 2021.

As for the TV series, there hasn’t been any word on when fans can expect to see this version of Life is Strange on their television screens but we hope it’s sooner rather than later!
