Life is Strange: True Colors Guide – How to find the Hold List
Life is Strange: True Colors is an emotional tale filled with decisions and hardships, but there are some tasks and puzzles along the way where completion is required for progression, like the hold list at the record store.
When Alex Chen meets Ryan and mentions she came to the record store to surprise her brother with a birthday gift, she learns the store is actually closed for business. At this point, the record store only functions as the town’s rad, alternative radio station. Ryan informs Alex that he’s pretty sure her brother Gabe has an item on the record store’s hold list, because it wouldn’t be Life is Strange without gifting the ones you love with some music. There is a catch though: Ryan doesn’t know where the hold list is. Steph probably knows but she’s busy running the station in the studio. It’s up to Alex and Ryan to search among the clutter and treasures.
Like most of the game’s locations, the record store is detailed and brimming with life, which is why it can be a little difficult to find the hold list. Interesting items that shed light on the town and its inhabitants line the walls and shelves, including a record player where Alex can sit and chill for as long as players would like. Listening to a Life is Strange soundtrack is not a bad way to kill time.
When you’re done poking around the store and learning about the town head to the corner of the room directly across from Steph and the studio. There’s an adorable black cat laying on top of the hold list on the record shelves. Only a heartless monster would try to scare a cat so let’s find a different option to lure her away. Valkyrie’s an easy cat to please. All you need to do is head to the store’s front counter and talk to Ryan.
After bonding over some jokes about Gabe’s music taste Ryan helps Alex find Valkyrie’s cat toy. The game will then allow players to talk with Ryan and suggest places to search at the front counter. This can be done without having to change Alex’s position, which helps make the conversation between the two feel more natural.
The cat toy is located in the junk box on the back shelf. After Alex suggests searching for it there, Ryan finds the toy and hands it to Alex. You can then head over to Valkyrie and lure her away with the squeaky toy.
Now with the hold list in hand Ryan can secure Gabe’s album for Alex to purchase. The gift will have to come later though. Things are abruptly interrupted after Steph needs to leave the station to attend to an important matter. Ryan offers to watch over the station though, which Steph gratefully accepts. The section ends after a short conversation between Alex, Ryan, and Gabe.
