Wine and Dinegeon is a queer, Zelda-esque dungeon crawler

Have you ever wanted to crawl through a cellar, wielding nothing but a very fine bottle of Chardonnay and a knife that certainly cuts something, all the while looking like a very fancy version of Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who? Then you’re in luck, because Wine and Dinegeon has got what you need!

Wine and Dinegeon has been described by developer Rue Minnesota as cross between ‘a Zelda-like dungeon crawler with the TV show Frasier.’ What the connection is between Zelda and Frasier in this game has yet to be found out by me, but you’ll know my full thoughts when I look at it for next week’s Gayme of the Week.

Players will take control of Avery, a non-binary protagonist who has just recently inherited their Great Uncle’s mansion. Unfortunately, that means they’ve also inherited the need to put on dinner parties. For someone as unpretentious as Avery, this comes across as a bit of a hassle but they go along with it at the badgering of the family’s pet bird, Pierce.

To entice guests, however, Avery will need to do into the depths of the various cellars to get the right dinner party components for their guests. Who knows, get the right food for the right guests and maybe a spark of romance will happen… That is, if you can fight against the vengeful Horror d’oeuvres to get the stuff you need.

The game is currently being worked on by the developers, but we’re stoked to see that there are more and more games that feature non-binary protagonists, all the while offering diverse, romance options for the player to pick from.

To play the demo version of Wine and Dinegeon, head on over to Rue Minnesota’s official website – available for both PC and Mac users. It has yet to be confirmed whether the game will appear on other platforms.
