Is there cross-progression in Apex Legends for the Nintendo Switch?
Apex Legends, a battle royale game that has a pleasantly surprising amount of LGBTQIA characters within its cast, debuted on the Nintendo Switch this week. However, the game coming out on a new platform has left players with just one question: will cross-progression be coming to Apex Legends anytime soon?
The answer is a resounding ‘it is planned.’ Which really doesn’t sound as exciting or fulfilling as a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ does it? And that isn’t just for the Nintendo Switch, outside of the PC version of the game, there’s no cross-progression in Apex Legends at all.
This news comes from NintendoLife who had the opportunity to speak to Apex Legends game director, Chad Grenier. In their interview, Grenier stated:
“I think we’re a ways out from being able to offer [cross-progression.] I really want it as a gamer myself, so I hear what our fans are saying and I totally agree with them. We’re doing work to try to make that happen, it’s a complex challenge of multiple accounts existing for various users that we have to resolve or merge, there are legal and contractual things to navigate with purchasing on other platforms and having those carryover and also some technical challenges.” He continued, “it’s not something we can just turn on, but we are working towards having it and the team is passionate about delivering it at some point.”
Regardless of yours and our disappointment at cross-progression in Apex Legends not being a thing, there’s more than enough exciting things happening within the game itself. It currently has a new Caustic event, and last month Respawn celebrated Apex Legends anniversary with new cosmetics, holo-pads, and a Locked and Loaded event. There’s even been some talk of the battle royale game evolving from being just that sometime this year.
