Cyberpunk 2077 is no longer available on the PSN Store, Sony is offering refunds for PS4 players

In a not so surprising turn of events, things have escalated for CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077. It was late last night – around 3am in Warsaw, Poland – that Sony announced two things: that they would be helping to refund people of PS4 copies of Cyberpunk 2077, and that the game would no longer be listed on the PSN store.

To say that, in spite of positive reviews that gave the game a warm reception at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has been hit with disaster after disaster would be the understatement of the century. So, Sony delisting Cyberpunk 2077 on the PSN store? Just the cherry on top of the god-awful cake.

But even before launch Cyberpunk 2077 had its problems – its racist depiction of other cultures – my V actually called Chinese noodles exotic – the transphobia, the ableism… The list goes on. An interesting setting, with interesting characters, but one that is in a game that’s been riddled with controversy.

Yet, in spite of the controversy, it’s the poor performance on last-gen consoles that’s led to Sony removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PSN store. If you’re up for speculation – may have had something to do with CD Projekt Red admitting that they misled both Sony and Microsoft in their certification of the game. Regardless, it’s clear Sony are doing their best to help make it up to their consumers by giving out refunds for the game.

On a web page dedicated to the game’s refunds, Sony said the following:

“SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.”

CD Projekt Red has since responded on Twitter, announcing that a “decision had been made” to temporarily suspend digital distribution of Cyberpunk 2077 – hence it’s removal from the PSN store.

When the game will return is anyone’s guess, but if players are still interested in the game then it isn’t all bad. You can still buy physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077.
