Keiji Fujiwara, voice of Reno in FF7R and Axel in Kingdom Hearts, has passed away

The Japanese voice actor behind Reno in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as well as Kingdom Heart’s Axel, Keiji Fujiwara, has sadly passed away.

This news comes from Air Agency (via Anime News Network), the company that Fujiwara founded and was involved with a variety of different movies and series, such as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. According to the company, Fujiwara passed away on Sunday, April 12th, after a long battle with cancer and since then, has been laid to rest. He was only 55.

As stated by Anime News Network, Fujiwara had gone on hiatus from voice acting during August 2016 to undergo medical treatment, however had gradually returned the following year.

He was a very talented individual and had starred in many famous roles even outside of gaming, such as Shuichi Aizawa in Death Note, ACDC in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and even the Japanese dub of Tony Stark in Marvel’s Avengers. To say that Keiji Fujiwara was incredible at what he did would be an understatement, and the loss has been no doubt felt by all who were close to him, as well as those who admired him and his work.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with Fujiwara’s family, friends and fans during this tremendously difficult time.
