Star Wars Billy Dee Williams comes out as gender fluid

Oh, the Force is definitely with us, everyone. It was only a few days ago that Billy Dee Williams came out as gender fluid, and since then we’ve thought of little else. Not only are we big fans of Billy Dee Williams, but we’re more than aware of how some may be reacting to such news.

But ultimately, we’d rather focus on Williams and the courage that it took to come out at the age of 82.

We found out about Williams, who uses she/her and he/him pronouns, thanks to her interview with Esquire. In the interview, Williams told the interviewer ” I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine.” He stated, “I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”

Speaking further, Williams said “I never tried to be anything except myself. I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.”

As for William’s character, Lando Calrissian, he too is apparently is considered queer. This is because in the most recent Star Wars movie, Solo, it was confirmed by co-writer Jonathan Kasdan that he perceived Lando to be pansexual. Of course, this side of Lando was never acknowledged in the movies so whether you should take it seriously or chalk it up to Rowling Representation is, ultimately, up to you.

Regardless, we’re excited to see Williams in the upcoming film, Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. Stay tuned for our review and confirmation whether Finn and Poe actually kiss or not.
