Tinder has its own choose-your-adventure game
Tinder will always hold a special place in my heart. Seriously, I met my husband on Tinder, by chance, after swiping right while in a neighboring town searching for rare spawn in Pokemon Go. Since I knew from the moment I met him he was my soulmate, I haven’t been on the dating app in over two years. I hear there’s been updates and new features added, and now it appears Tinder has its own choose-your-adventure video game about an end of the world party as a comet hurdles towards Earth. (Cue “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith)
The video game, titled Swipe Night, is developed by Tinder under the direction of Karena Evans (Drake’s “God’s Plan”) based on the script by Nicole Delaney (Netflix’s “Big Mouth”) and Brandon Zuck. You take on the role of the main character in the game as you head to your best friend Molly’s house for what could be the last party on Earth. There’s drinking, dancing, flashing lights and some cool camera work as real, pre-recorded characters interact with you based on every decision you make. If you fail to pick a choice in five seconds, the game will chose for you.
Swipe Night also provides an augmented reality experience to users; as the picture on your screen will shake if you move, and your phone will buzz/vibrate each time you receive a new emergency alert.
Tinder produced the game as a fun way for users to get to know each other without the inclusion of awkward ice breakers. As you complete each chapter in Swipe Night, Tinder will provide you with profiles of users in your area who chose the same scenarios. With a video game already serving as a common interest, Swipe Night aims to be an interactive way for couples (and hookups) to meet and, Hell, maybe serve as a reason to get together every Sunday night. That’s… actually pretty genius.
New chapters in Swipe Night release every Sunday night on Tinder from 6:00PM until Midnight. Each segment is only five minutes long, and if you miss a week, compilations will be supplied online.
