Ellie’s journey in The Last of Us 2 is driven by love

The Last of Us 2 puts Ellie in the protagonist shoes this time around and, as we already know, it looks as though she’ll end up going through some very tough times. You know, zombie apocalypse, a probably terrible love life that potentially might end with death. The usual things we all go through at Ellie’s age.

But it isn’t all doom and gloom, just as it wasn’t in the first Last of Us. As Wcctech reported, Narrative Lead and co-writer Haley Goss states that Ellie will be “driven” by love to seek retribution against those who have wronged her. The full quote being: “Ellie is driven by love. It’s love that sends her on this mission for justice. It’s love that she feels for Joel, for Dina – these moments that buoy her.”

Who these people are, we’re not certain. But we have an idea that it has something to do with Dina, Ellie’s new love interest that we’ve seen a fair bit of since the E3 trailer. Of course, we have speculated that Dina may die in this new game, which would explain Ellie’s driving force this game.

The Last of Us 2 Joel

In the previous game, the relationship between Joel and Ellie drove the narrative. It wouldn’t be too farfetched to assume the same from The Last of Us 2, especially with Joel taking on a more secondary role to let Ellie and her story shine in the spotlight.

In other news, we recently found that that, despite the promises made by Naughty Dog during 2018’s E3, The Last of Us 2 will not have multiplayer. A shame, considering the previous game’s multiplayer was shockingly good. However, this is most likely due to this game being more focused on single-player this time around. Hell, we know we’re not complaining!

What Ellie’s story has in store for us remains to be seen, but we haven’t got all that long to wait. Only until February next year!
