PS5 backwards compatibility reported to be real
PS5 backwards compatibility with older consoles like the PS1, PS2 and even the newer versions of the PS3 and PS4, sounds like a dream come true. It’s been a feature that Xbox players have had for a while now, particularly with the Xbox One.
As for the PS4, there has been some sense of compatibility with the inclusion of PS Now but that relies on a solid internet connection – something which not all gamers might have.
With that in mind this report from HipHopGamer, a Twitter user whom ComicBook has stated to be a reliable source in the past, talks about Sony working on a ‘Remastering Engine’ for the PS5. With this engine, gamers will be able to play old games of the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 on this new console but with obvious visual enhancements.
Whether this is actually true or not remains to be seen, so we advise you taking this information with a grain of salt all the same.
That said, we are aware that backwards compatibility is going to be a thing anyway, but only for PS4 games. This was confirmed during Sony’s interview with WIRED, which even went on to say that the new console was based “in part on the PS4’s architecture.”
This doesn’t confirm anything about other PS consoles however, nor does it confirm if PlayStation users will need to spend even more money to get access to backwards compatibility in the same vein as PS Now.
Nonetheless, the PS5 is set to come out in 2020 so we’re certain that more information about the console will be coming out sooner rather than later.
For now, we can only cross our fingers and hope that yes, we can finally play that PS1 Beyblade game on the PS5. Just the way God intended for it to be played.
