Lock and Key, a yuri visual novel that includes magical girls, is announced
Studio Élan are known for their downright magical yuri visual novels, such as Highway Blossoms and Heart of the Woods. Now they’ve included another story to gush about: Lock and Key. And this time, it includes one of our downright favourite things: magical girls!
We’ve had cute ghosts, a western setting with cowgirls, and now with magical girls, it’s like we’ve got the best trifecta imaginable.
But, as the game itself asks, what does it mean to be a magical girl?
This is the question that drives the heart of Lock and Key. The protagonists Sherri and Kealey Cohan, are now in their late 20s, happily married and are retired from their lives of being magical girls. That was a decade ago and life seems happy.
Only, now that the couple are on the verge of losing their powers and living the life of normal humans, a string of murders have occurred. Murders that have forced Sherri and Kealey out of retirement for one last adventure as magical girls.
But they won’t be alone. The couple are joined by their old friend Nina, as well as her protege Ruby. Together, all four of them will do their best to discover who is behind the murders, and why.
Much like in their previous games, Studio Élan states that in the world of Lock and Key, the player shapes their path and determines where that path will end – meaning your choices? They matter.
As of now, there is no release date announced for Lock and Key, but we do know that it will be available on PC, Mac, and Linux. You’ll be able to purchase the game on Steam, itch.io and other digital platforms that are available.
Keep an eye on Gayming Magazine for more information because, like you, we can’t get enough of magical girls.
