The world of streaming has opened up new and exciting avenues for entertainment, with a variety of streamers around the world doing their utmost to foster communities and bring together likeminded people.

For LGBTQ+ streamers community, striking out against the norm, charity work and being a role-model is part of what makes streaming so fun and rewarding. That’s worth celebrating and to lead up to the Gayming Awards 2023, we’ll be highlighting each streamer who has been nominated for our LGBTQ Streamer of the Year, a category sponsored by Streamlabs.

Our latest Gayming Awards 2023 Streamer Spotlight is Gothika Love.

Gothika Love is a variety and horror game streamer. You can expect streams that are community oriented, with make-up and an extra layer of chaos.

How did you get into video games/streaming?

I’ve been playing video games since I was 5! I started on the Nintendo 64, Obsessed with WWF No Mercy and Mario Party 2. Turn the clock to when I was 19/20, I was playing Dead By Daylight and I just wanted a way to record all of my memories, which then turned into one of my biggest passion projects ever! I never gave up on it, and I cherish it everyday!

What is your favourite thing to stream?

This is tough because I feel like switching what I like most very easily. Currently with the vibes and ways I like to project, It would have to be Gartic Phone. I play maybe once a week, and there a lot of funny/talented artists in my community and we just meme and metaverse all of our favorite baddies from our fave games like Bayonetta and Ms. Green (the M&M).

What can people expect from your stream?

Chaos incarnate. We’re wild! For starters, I do drag, so expect a SERVE. Second, expect memes upon memes and overstimulation, energy, and overall messiness! Good gameplay? I…well. Anyways: Vibes and Serving.

How has your experience as an out LGBTQ+/QTPOC streamer been?

Pretty wild. I’ve been surrounded by so much LGBTQIA+ people than I ever thought I would be in my entire life. I don’t have a lot of IRL friends and it’s tough to get into IRL queer spaces for me, a part of my anxiety holds me back, I’m not really ready for that and as well, I never wanted to do it alone. So, I’m very grateful for that.

I never realized until streaming how important it is to have representation in gaming spaces like streaming. And I’ve always been very expressive of who I am and what I look like, and I think that’s special because I wanna teach people that it’s OK to be authentically you even if it may not be the norm AND give people the self confidence to do so. With the amount of love that I received comes with a level of hate that follows. I’ve been a target for a hate raid (and frankly, I ate them up), I’ve had viral videos go off to the wrong side of people that bombarded me with hate comments, and I’m still better off so like??? It’s been great!

What do you do outside of streaming?

… Work on stream, haha. Part of my resolution is to have a better social battery so I’ll hang out in the Discord or friend’s Discord. Me and my partner once a week go out on a date. Sometimes, my best friend comes over and sleeps over. I like to keep busy, but if the social battery is low, I sit in my living room and binge watch, tee-hee.

What do you enjoy the most about streaming?

I don’t think I can choose that because I feel like what really shines is different each day. I love my community. I love being the entertainer. I love the meme-ery. If I had to choose, I love the part that we all come to my stream just to forget all the bad sh*t we have going on for even just one second, and have a good time!

What have you learned about yourself through streaming?

A lot of insecurities, hah! I’ve learned so much more about myself than I thought I did. I learned how important my mental health is, being expressive about that is, and recognizing those feelings an confronting them. I had a lot of bad habits that I overcame through streaming and I think that’s the best part.

What’s your main goal as a streamer for the future?

I dont know. I’m currently trying to find something I’m most passionate about right now that’s super big and exciting, but I haven’t found anything that fits my needs. So, in these instances, It’s important to ride the waves and everything else will fall into place!

What are you looking forward to most this year?

Having clear skin. Seeing how my channel grows because it’s my project and as fun as it is, it’s also fun to see it succeed, teehee. Looking forward to al the horror movies coming out so far this year, and all the games. Twitch-Con. Maybe take 2 vacations this year instead of one! We’ll see.

How does it feel to be nominated for Gayming Magazine’s Streamer of the Year?

As iconic as it is, I think it’s very important to remember that Queer success is Queer success in the end of the day, and we should all be proud of ourselves! I’m so honored, I really wanna make an impact in my own way and it feels good to be seen amongst my peers!

How do you think it’ll affect your streaming to win Streamer of the Year?

Well, It’ll give not only me, but my community to have something to be proud of! I also give my sister and best friend something to be proud of. I think it’ll make me really happy. and whatever comes after that is just the bonus. This is all about queer success in the end of the day, so all outcomes are good!
