Pokémon UNITE anniversary celebration adds Glaceon and more
On Friday, the developers behind Pokémon UNITE announced the game’s first anniversary celebration event and what all it will entail. The party starts on July 21 and the various celebrations will wrap up on September 1. Three new pokémon will enter the game, and players will be able to participate in several challenges to earn Unite licenses and holowear.
New combatants join for Pokémon UNITE’s first anniversary
One of the major changes the anniversary brings with it is the addition of three new monsters to the playable pool. The first is the game’s third Eevee-lution, Glaceon. It joins trans-icon Sylveon and psychic-type Espeon in the Aeos arena starting when the event kicks off on July 21. Players will be able to earn the Fresh Snow Pokémon’s Unite license for free by participating in the Icy Glaceon Challenge from July 21 at 12 a.m. PDT through August 14 at 4:59 p.m. PDT. Buzzswole will be joining the party on August 3, and Tyranitar will follow on August 15.
Bosh Rush Quick Battle mode will make its debut
Pokémon UNITE’s first anniversary celebration is also introducing a new Quick Battle mode to the game. It’s called Boss Rush, and has players team up to defeat powerful boss pokémon to earn rewards. The higher your team’s Unite score is, the better the rewards you’ll get. Boss Rush will be available in the Quick Battle queue during three periods of the event:
- July 21, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. PDT to July 24, 2022, at 4:59 p.m. PDT
- July 31, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PDT to August 7, 2022, at 4:59 p.m. PDT
- August 14, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PDT to August 21, 2022, at 4:59 p.m. PDT
Season 9 Battle Pass and holowear are music-themed
The Season 9 Battle Pass and accompanying Band Style: Pikachu holowear will go live in Pokémon UNITE on July 21. Songstress Style: Wigglytuff will also be available. Additionally, players who log in for five days between July 21 and October 12 will receive Unite licenses and corresponding holowear:
- Day 1: Pikachu & Fashionable Style: Pikachu
- Day 2: Lucario & Concert Style: Lucario
- Day 3: Blastoise & Firefighter Style: Blastoise
- Day 4: Snorlax & Bedtime Style: Snorlax
- Day 5: Sylveon & Checkered Style: Sylveon
Players will get 100 Aeos coins for any licenses or holowear they already own.
Let them eat cake!
From July 21 through September 1, players will be able to participate in the Anniversary Cake Challenge, where they’ll collect frosting to decorate the anniversary cake and earn rewards. Players will gather frosting by competing in battles and completing in-game missions.
