Dead by Daylight’s Pride #IntoTheRainbow event smashes fundraiser goal
Dead by Daylight’s Pride event #IntoTheRainbow returned for the second year running, with a goal of raising money for LGBTQ+ charities and organizations through donations.
The 4-hour event split 10 players into 2 teams, Group A and Group B, with hosts Negaoryx and Bosco leading the show and giving play-by-play commentary throughout. The players part of the teams were the following: ReadySetBen, ThatViolinChick, DragTrashly, Evidious515, Eevoh, CriticalBard, Hale, DEERE, Granny, and MegTurney.
As the event went on, donations were processed via Tiltify. After a little over 4 hours, the #IntoTheRainbow fundraiser had earned just over 14k for Streamcause and 10k for Project 10, a Montreal-based charity working with LGBTQIA2S+ youth. To find out more about Project 10 and the donation process, look here.
We had the opportunity to speak to players Evidious515, DragTrashly, and ReadySetBen to find out more about the event and what Dead by Daylight means to them.
What does DbD mean to you as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community?
ReadySetBen: Dead by Daylight is an escape (no pun intended). For whatever reason, nothing else matters when playing Dead by Daylight. It is an opportunity for everyone to come together regardless of race, gender, non-gender and where you sit within the LGBTQIA+ community and WORK TOGETHER.
Evidious515: DBD openly shows it’s support of the community though cosmetics, events, and helping raise funds for LGBTQIA+ causes. As a “gaymer”, it’s comforting to know a developer keeps people like myself in mind when making new features.
DragTrashly: Dead by Daylight is a gaming industry leader in championing diversity and representation not only in the game, but also in their events and social media. The game has had a huge queer community following from the start and I’ve made so many friends from playing.
Why is inclusion so vital to the videogaming industry?
ReadySetBen: Inclusion within the gaming industry has been an issue for a very long time. It was difficult growing up and not seeing anyone that looked like me in a video game. I wasn’t able to fully immerse myself and I would often disconnect from games.
Evidious515: Gaming can be an escape, a hobby, or a career for LGBTQIA+ people. Seeing people like ourselves represented in the space let’s us feel seen and heard. We are able to use these tools to express ourselves to the digital world, and gain confidence in our day to day lives being openly out and proud.
DragTrashly: If you don’t see yourself represented in the world it can be difficult to feel like you have a place in it. I grew up gaming and it would have been such a relief to see someone like me in the games I was playing.
What does your participation in Into the Rainbow mean to you?
ReadySetBen: It means I can show of my skill, or the lack of. Play games with new and old friends and really celebrate pride with a developer that supports us as Queer folx, not just for the month of June.
Evidious515: My particular style of expression and drag aesthetic isn’t always represented in LGBTQIA+ spaces, and I’m excited to represent gender fluidity to a larger audience all while raising money for LGBTQIA+ grass root charities!
DragTrashly: I’m always so honored to be included in anything DBD related, but especially this charity Pride event. It almost brings me to tears that I, a drag queen, get to represent one of my favorite games.
If you could tell DbD fans once thing about inclusion and diversity what would it be?
ReadySetBen: It matters, MORE THAN YOU THINK.
Evidious515: Listen and learn before you make assumptions. Gamers come from all walks of life, but we have a shared joy in gaming so we already have something in common. Lead with love, acceptance, and understanding.
DragTrashly: Pride isn’t about shoving an agenda down anyone’s throats. It’s about being PROUD. Many of us struggled with our identities growing up and we are finally in a place where we are proud of who we are and we want to celebrate!
