Friday the 13th: The Game To Receive Final Patch

When Gun Media announced that they were creating a Friday the 13th video game, horror fans around the world couldn’t contain their excitement. However, after a rocky few years of being released, Gun Media’s lead community developer Matt Shotcha announced that Friday the 13th would be getting its final patch.

The news comes from Shotcha’s post on the official Friday the 13th: The Game forums, where the developer explained that there is an upcoming patch coming to the game sometime this month, November. This patch will get rid of dedicated servers, and revert back to “peer to peer matchmaking.” For those concerned, this doesn’t mean that multiplayer is impossible now, just that multiplayer games will not be hosted on the servers that Gun Media uses. Instead of players games’ giving information to the servers, to then relay back to different players, there is no longer any middle ground. This comes with its own host of positives and negatives.

Despite this final patch sounding very final, Gun Media is not tossing the game into the bin and players will still have their progress, cosmetics, etc, and will be able to play the game. The game itself isn’t going anywhere, it just will no longer receive patches in the same vein that Battlefront 2 doesn’t.

Shotcha also stated that “the game will continue to be available for sale, and as such will continue to receive the full support of JasonKillsBugs.com as a resource for troubleshooting.” Double XP, CP, and Tape Drop Rates, which were included at the start of the pandemic, will now be there indefinitely.

The post concluded with Shotcha thanking the support of every fan and player that made “Friday 13th: The Game what it is today.”
