Confetti’s Cozy Corner: Loftia preview

Lofita is a much-anticipated multiplayer life sim that centers on community working toward the goal of a sustainable future. Currently, Loftia’s closed beta is in full swing, and so far, the general feel of the game seems to be positive.

The early reviews and streams from the closed Beta inspire a lot of excitement for Loftia‘s full release. I couldn’t get my hands on a Beta code, and the FOMO is real!

Drawing inspiration from popular cozy games like Stardew Valley, No Man’s Sky, and Animal Crossing, the world of Loftia encourages gamers to explore, collaborate, and express themselves authentically.

A major area that is praiseworthy when it comes to Lofita is its dedication to making every player feel seen. An area that ‘cozy-like’ games still struggle with is representation, especially when it comes to textured hairstyles, when there is a character creator.

A not too atypical experience is seeing many options for eye color, clothes, and even eyebrow types, but when it comes to skin tone and textured hair, the options are less than stellar.

Loftia developers shared the range of textured hairstyles they are adding to the game and the care they are putting into their development, so players can genuinely put themselves in the game and see themselves represented accurately.

The developers showed the process of creating textured hairstyles. There’s no AI in sight, which is a great thing, as the Loftia devs acknowledge that creating the hairstyles does take more time, but the investment is worth it because representation matters.

It is always strange when life sims shortchange the experience of Black and brown players when it comes to self-inserting, as if players would not want to create characters that look just like them. It is tired, old, and lazy; and seeing Loftia put time, care, and attention into making sure Black players have a great experience with their game, not only means a lot, but shows that it can be done.

The quote ‘Representation Matters’, in the games industry, must be more than just words. While Black creatives and developers work on many projects that do include everyone, especially dark-skinned options and textured hairstyles, the onus should not only be on Black developers to do the work of being inclusive, or Black players/creators still fighting for representation.

While more inclusive representation has been improving, there is still much work to be done, especially in the indie gaming space, Loftia game devs loudly saying and showing that they are doing the work should be the standard.

Lofita’s closed Beta servers will be up from April 22nd to May 6th, 2026, for those lucky enough to receive a Beta code.

I cannot wait to dive into the world of Lofita if there is eventually an open beta, and can’t wait for the full release!

Were you one of the lucky ones to receive a Beta code? What are your thoughts on Loftia so far?
