On Star Trek Day, Le Creuset boldly braises where no pan has gone before
Happy Star Trek Day to all my fellow queer Trekkies out there! Today (Sept 8th) is the 60th birthday of the Star Trek franchise and while there will undoubtedly be numerous official and unofficial celebrations taking place throughout the day, the one that caught this nerd’s eye is the announcement from luxury cookware company Le Creuset with the drop of a whole shuttle-bay’s worth of Star Trek themed products!
Le Creuset is no slouch when it comes to brand partnerships, in the last few years alone we’ve seen tie-ins with Star Wars, Pokémon, and even Wicked. But this is the first time there’s been a team with Star Trek and let me tell you, there’s no red shirts in this collection. If this was an away team, they’re all beaming right into my basket!
“With the Le Creuset x Star Trek Collection, we set out to commemorate some of the franchise’s most beloved symbols with our signature craftsmanship and iconic colours and designs,” said Nate Collier, Senior Director of Marketing Communications and Culinary at Le Creuset.
“From the Enterprise Signature Round Casserole designed to command the stovetop, the Klingon Signature Shallow Casserole that embodies strength, and the Galileo Shuttle Covered Casserole that inspires exploration, each piece blends exceptional culinary performance with true intergalactic fandom.”
So we’ve had the mission briefing, now let’s see the products… Make it slow (cook)!
A pair of signature Dutch Ovens (or casserole dishes, if you’re not American) lead the collection. The larger round Ducth Oven features the USS Enterprise flying around the lid with the signature Le Creuset rings as the warp trail, plus the iconic Starfleet delta icon as the knob.
The shallower Dutch Oven is Klingon-themed and features a Bird of Prey on the lid with the Klingon badge acting as the handle. This is a real workhorse of a product suitable for multiple cooking tasks. Perhaps today is a good day to fry!
Next up is a rectangular 1.6-quart baking dish themed like the famous Shuttlecraft Galileo — complete with warp nacelles! Styled in Le Creuset’s brioche coloring, this two piece set is perfect for exploring the unknown world of casseroles and ensures your dinner service won’t end up like The Galileo Seven-Course Meal.
If you don’t have as much gold-pressed latinum as you’d like, then maybe this selection of mini cocottes (small casserole dishes) could be ideal! Themed after three alien races, there’s the Talosian head in pearlized mauve pink, Balok’s head in “pearlized bleu riviera”, or a Gorn head in “pearlized bamboo green”. These dishes are ideal for single portion foods like pot pies, lasagne, mac & cheese, and even red-alert chilli!
It would be highly illogical not to consider these two Vulcan-themed products. The Live Long & Prosper Spoon Rest is shaped like a Vulcan salute and is the perfect place to rest your spoon to bring order to any kitchen chaos. Meanwhile, the Spock Mug features his iconic ear silhouette along with gold detailing around the rim reflecting the Starfleet uniform. Fascinating!
Lastly, no away mission to the kitchen would be complete without these two accessories. The Live Long & Prosper Oven Mitt ensures your saluting hand is not scalded while touching hot surfaces – just don’t go putting your face into the warp core (too soon?). Alongside that, be sure to whip out your Star Trek Communi-Grater (that’s not even one of my puns!), the perfect way to grate your cheese while doing your best Kirk impersonation.
