Geeky apparel and wares with My Nerd Life
My Nerd Life, aka Nick and Nikki, is a geeky apparel company who design awesome geek-chic clothing and accessories for all gamers that not only look good on the convention floor, but also for everyday wear.
Both geeks at heart with a love of cosplaying, gaming and D&D, they have poured their passion into their designs to produce an amazing array of geek-chic apparel. They even have an amazing Pride range of designs!
I met up with them to talk about how their business got started, the inspirations for their designs and the plans for the future.

Robin: When did you start MyNerdLife and what were the reasons why you started the company?
Nikki: We started in 2019! Post Gen Con reflections led me to realize I never found clothes at conventions that I wanted to wear the rest of the year. There are only so many places you can wear a ‘Double Nat 20’ shirt to!
Nick: I really wanted to make geeky clothing I wanted to wear everyday, not the usual funny shirt items but actual fun geeky items. Having had our Etsy shop previously we realized it was more doable than we had originally thought.
You’re a geeky duo, what games have been the inspirations for your designs and what do you enjoy playing when you’re not at work?
Nikki: For sure D&D! Stardew Valley, Valheim, World of Warcraft, Eschaton… honestly too many to name. I’m a huge fan of open world crafting/survival games – so typically anything in the genre. We’ve been playing a lot of Valheim lately with friends. Gotta make sure the bees are happy!
Nick: Obviously D&D haha, classic PC Games like Civilization and Red Alert. I’ve sunk a lot of hours into Hades 2 recently; WoW is always a fun one to pick up for a bit, and my classic go to is Making History.

What have been some of your favorite designs you’ve produced?
Nikki: Hands down my most worn and favorite item is the Roll For It yoga pants – the wrap waist is sooo comfy and I love that the design is a bit ambiguous on what it means. If you’re deep into TTRPG you’ll get it, but it’s not an ‘in your face’ item.
Nick: Our retrowave items are my go to; especially the chaotic awesome shirts. I’m not going to say they aren’t based on my RPG play style, but you know… if the shoe fits! I’m picky on fabric feel so we tend to go through multiple samples before we decide on a final option.

What new collections or designs can people look forward to this year?
Nikki: We’ve got two main collection themes this year – one that I’m calling Gelatinous Cube Core, which is cottage core meets the dungeon, and one that we’re calling Arcane Elements, which is streetwear meets magic!
Nick: I’m looking to bring our little coffee dragon ‘Kaldi’ into a new bag design. I’m also working on a few new design to bring out my inner dwarven aesthetic.

Any plans for more Pride merch? You’ve already got some cool designs, we’d love to see more!
Nick: Right off the bat we’re revamping our pride sock collection, which is a fan favorite, and now even comfier! In keeping with my love of Star Trek, we’re also working on some new IDIC designs.
Nikki: I’ve been working on a new dress design, I’m being a bit picky on our design samples, but we should have it in time!

What are your hopes and aims for the future?
Nikki: I want to keep making fun geeky clothing that isn’t your normal t-shirt merch, and I hope that we get to keep meeting great new folks at different conventions.
Nick: I’m hoping to keep pushing the envelope on fully custom made geeky clothing, and I’m hoping we get to showcase our clothes at GenCon in the future!

You’re regular attendees on the con circuit – what conventions are you planning to be at this year where people can come and check out your designs?
Nikki: You can find MyNerdLife at PAX East, Origins Game Fair and PAX West. There are a few others in the works as well. Personally you’ll see Nick and I at Gen Con and Gamehole Con! Look for me passing out Gelatinous Cube badge ribbons in my Gelatinous Cube Witch outfit!
