Grand Theft Auto 5 actor defends GTA 6’s new female protagonist after fan backlash

Grand Theft Auto 6 faced some fan backlash about “going woke” after its announcement trailer revealed that the main playable protagonist will be a woman named Lucia. But one of the franchise’s most prominent voice actors doesn’t agree.

In an interview with IGN, the actor of Grand Theft Auto’s Michael (for both voice and modeling), Ned Luke seemed very excited by the new character and her parallels to the cast of GTA 5.

He noted that her opening line in the trailer is very similar to the opening of his own game, and he seems excited to see how her story may mirror and differ from theirs.

“The first thing was the similarity to the first trailer that we did,” Luke said when asked what he noticed about the trailer. “‘Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather,’ right? ‘Lucia, do you know why you’re here?’ ‘Bad luck, I guess.’ Boom that kinda hit me there, there’s a parallel there.”

“I thought she was very much a badass,” Luke said about what he saw of Lucia in the trailer. “I really liked her character. Now, does that mean it’s going to translate into this amazing character in-game? We’ll see. I think so.”

Luke also noted that some fans seemed to feel GTA 6’s other protagonist, a man named Jason, appears “soft,” which he also disagreed with.

“You didn’t see Jason,” Luke said. “He’s laying in bed with her on top of him, you know ‘trust.’ If I got that chick on top of me, I’m gonna go ‘yeah, whatever you say.'”

Beyond the main characters, the thing that mainly caught Luke’s attention was the size of the butts in this trailer.

“I was looking for a small butt,” he said in reference to his livestreamed reaction to the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. “There were no small asses! Our trailer had small asses. I can’t believe how big the asses are.”
