Drops of Death is an upcoming murder mystery visual novel from Snowhaven Studios and Crystal Game Works, but it has a unique, romantic twist. In this game, the murderer is chosen randomly at the start of each playthrough, so you may end up falling in love with them during your journey.
“We’re the devs behind Drops of Death, a murder mystery visual novel where the killer is randomly selected at the start of the game,” Snowhaven Studios wrote on Twitter. “And there’s a romantic twist… You might end up dating the KILLER.”
The game includes four dateable characters, two men and two women, allowing for LGBTQ+ romance options if players are interested in them.
Drops of Death follows Adrian Lee — whose pronouns you can enter yourself and who has two appearance options — a college student who visits their school’s pool to swim and destress after class. One night during their usual pool session, a hooded figure shows up and attacks them. Adrian barely escapes, and as the case is investigated, they feel like the killer is still watching them.
Because of its random nature, any of the game’s four potential love interests can also end up being the murderer. If you wind up with a killer, you will have to decide if you can look past what they’ve done, or if you’re going to turn them in. You may also find yourself as one of their victims, so be careful. There are 25 different endings in Drops of Death; which one you get will depend on the choices you make during your playthrough.
Snowhaven Studios has completed development on one other horror visual novel, Not It: Spookiest Edition, which follows a young woman who is trapped inside an inn with other guests who may be cursed.
Drops of Death doesn’t currently have a release date, but those who are looking forward to it can wishlist it on Steam now.
