Warrior Nun creator confirms return for axed Netflix show

Warrior Nun, a previously axed show from Netflix, will return after all.

Fans of the show, which follows protagonist Ava after she wakes up in a morgue to discover she now possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo Bearer. Ava chooses to use this power to help a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns, which is as wild and entertaining as it sounds. Along the way, she grows closer to Sister Beatrice, which culminates in their romantic relationship in Season 2. Fans were immediately hooked on their relationship and how it would impact the story going forward.

However, it all fell apart when Netflix cancelled Warrior Nun instead of renewing it for Season 3. Considering the show’s main couple was between two women — and the suspicious amount of sapphic shows that keep getting cancelled or cut down — fans were left angry, but not at all surprised. Instead they used that energy to campaign, using the #SaveWarriorNun hashtag on social media platforms like Twitter.

These campaigns seem to have paid off too. Earlier today Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry tweeted about the show officially returning sometime in the future.

“Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts – #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine.” Barry shared via Twitter. “More details to come! SOON! Thank-you!! #SaveWarriorNun #WarriorNunSaved.”

While there has been no confirmation whether the show will return to Netflix or move onto another platform, fans that have stuck by the show since the beginning have expressed their joy over the news. Not only will Ava’s story get to continue, but so will the romantic relationship between her and Sister Beatrice. A huge win for the sapphics.
