Can you be gay in Wildfrost?

Wildfrost is a new roguelike deckbuilding game developed by Deadpan Games and Gaziter and published by Chucklefish, which put players into a world that’s been ravaged my a huge, supernatural snowstorm. Players set out with an explorer to try to make their way through the frozen wastes in search of a way to put an end to this age of cold and snow.

As you progress through the frozen landscape and complete various goals, different parts of your little settlement town will unlock and expand. These include a pet stable where you can choose an adorable companion to back you up on your journey, an inventor’s workshop which creates new tools you may encounter while adventuring, a tribe hall where you can see the different tribes available to choose a hero from, a hot air balloon that give you access to more difficult daily quests with an online leaderboard, and more.

Since you and your fellow tribespeople in this world are trying to survive and re-build their lives in spite of the Wildfrost, you may be wondering, can you be gay?

Can you be gay in Wildfrost?

Unfortunately, you can’t be textually gay in Wildfrost. The game doesn’t have any dating or romance mechanics, and most of the characters you meet are relatively disposable, as they only appear in your current run before dying off or disappearing into the procedurally generated nether if you start a new one.

That said, none of the characters really seem to be specifically gendered. The hero and their companions don’t have conversations or other dialogue, so there’s no need for pronouns. Additional companions simply introduce themselves with their names. While you could probably assume a character’s gender based on their appearance, as in real life, it won’t be the best practice since the characters themselves never say one way or the other.
