The next VALORANT Agent is L.A. local Gekko
On Saturday Riot Games unveiled the latest playable Agent for its competitive FPS, VALORANT — Gekko. He’s an Initiator class character who controls four little friends that provide varying utility. Gekko is the game’s 22nd Agent and will become available for players to unlock during Episode 6, Act 2.
Riot has been teasing Gekko with short animated clips on Twitter in the week leading up to the Grand Finals of the VCT LOCK/IN LAN tournament event in São Paulo, Brazil. These clips revealed that Gekko lives with his mother in Los Angeles, that he’s friends with Reyna, and that he already knows several of the VALORANT Agents already on the roster. In his official reveal trailer, it’s also mentioned that Reyna created Gekko’s buddies, calling them her “hijos” or “children.” Beyond that, he’s a young guy with freshly-dyed green hair, a taste for boba tea, and a knack for skateboarding.
The developers used a showmatch between professional VALORANT players and streamers before the Grand Finals to give fans a live demonstration of Gekko and his pals in action.
First up is Dizzy (E), who charges up and releases plasma blasts at enemies within her line of sight when fired. When she’s expended her energy, Dizzy turns into a little blob that you can interact with to pick up and gain another use after a recharge.
Next is Wingman (Q), whose name explains a lot about his abilities. If Gekko fires him at enemies, he’ll hit the first one he sees with a concussive blast. If you aim at the spike with Wingman and hit your alt-fire, he will try to either plant or defuse, depending on which side you’re currently on. Wingman can also be retrieved to use again after a cooldown.
Mosh Pit (C), a.k.a Mosh, is the heavy artillery of Gekko’s loadout. With your regular fire Mosh can be used like a grenade. With alt-fire, you throw Mosh underhand. When he lands, he duplicates across a large area and explodes after a delay.
Finally, we have Gekko’s Ultimate, Thrash (X). Fire Thrash and link minds to steer them around the map. Activate it to capture enemies in an explosion that detains anyone within a small radius. Gekko can pick Thrash up one time for another charge.
