Streamer Spotlight: SuperButterBuns

The world of streaming has opened up new and exciting avenues for entertainment, with a variety of streamers around the world doing their utmost to foster communities and bring together likeminded people.

For LGBTQ+ streamers community, striking out against the norm, charity work and being a role-model is part of what makes streaming so fun and rewarding. That’s worth celebrating and to lead up to the Gayming Awards 2023, we’ll be highlighting each streamer who has been nominated for our LGBTQ Streamer of the Year, a category sponsored by Streamlabs.

This week’s Gayming Awards 2023 Streamer Spotlight is SuperButterBuns.

How did you get into video games/streaming?

I got into video games when I was 5 years old, with my first console being the PS2. I’ve been hooked ever since – always keeping up with the latest and greatest in gaming.

During my college years at UCSD in 2015, I started creating YouTube videos as a way to practice my editing skills. I began streaming only a few months later as a way to interact with my community while I recorded game footage for potential videos and the rest is history.

What is your favourite thing to stream?

I have a wide interest but I mainly stream JRPGs, action adventure games, and the latest hot releases.

However, I also stream gaming news twice a month where I cover and discuss major new stories. Sunday Bunday, my gaming news show, is easily my favorite part of streaming and it’s been a great way to interact with my community because it gives me a chance to talk passionately about a variety of issues in the gaming industry and beyond!

What can people expect from your stream?

My streams are for the most part chill and goofy with the occasional deep talks, but I often use my soundboard (loaded with 300+ effects) to add some extra entertainment value while making as many dumb jokes as possible. Who doesn’t love a good comedic timed fart with reverb, am I right?

How has your experience as an out LGBTQ+/QTPOC streamer been?

My experience being a lesbian creator for the most part has been incredibly positive. In my starting years I was very hush-hush about my sexuality due to financial and family entanglements, but through the success of my creator career I’m now able to be out and proud without fear or shame. While there is the occasional hate raid, it’s worth dealing with if it means I can be a role model and offer a safe space for gaymers everywhere

What do you do outside of streaming?

I mainly spend my off streaming time working on YouTube videos and spending quality time with my beautiful fiancee and our 2 cats.

What do you enjoy the most about streaming?

Streaming gives me a lot of personal fulfillment since I found a way to turn my excessive talking into something fun for others. Interacting with chat is always so interesting and entertaining. It’s amazing to get real time thoughts, opinions, and jokes while talking about games. Helps keep my mind and perspective sharp since viewers add so much to the experience.

What have you learned about yourself through streaming?

I think what I’ve learned is that my voice has value. Streaming has helped me feel confident and has given me a space to express my thoughts and feelings. But in general, I’ve learned a lot about the world and different paths of life through my viewers when they share their experiences. In a way its helped make me a more worldly person.

What’s your main goal as a streamer for the future?

My main goal has always been to be a goofy and funny entertainer that creates a space where newcomers can learn about the gaming industry and maybe help discover their next favorite series.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

I’m really looking forward to all of the great exciting games set to release this year and making some personal strides that better provide for my family.

How does it feel to be nominated for Gayming Magazine’s Streamer of the Year?

I feel very honored to be nominated. As part of a group who are often overlooked or belittled for their identity, it’s really awesome there is a distinguished association that helps recognize the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community in gaming.

How do you think it’ll affect your streaming to win Streamer of the Year?

Personally, I think it would add a special seal of approval that my content is first and foremost for the gaymers. They have been a core part of my brand for years and it would be beyond validating to win streamer of the year in that respect. They’re the reason I love what I do.
