FIFAe launches new female esports inclusivity program FAMEHERGAME

On Monday, FIFAe (the esports branch of football governing body FIFA) announced that it is launching a new inclusivity program for women. This program is called FAMEHERGAME and it aims to increase women’s participation in FIFAe and esports.

FAMEHERGAME is part of FIFAe making good on its “Good Game Promise” from 2022, which was an initiative put forward by the organization to “change the scene for the better.” The goal of the Good Game Promise is “creating a stage where anyone can unlock their full potential and to form a professional, entertaining and sustainable esports ecosystem for the entire community.” This program has three core pillars: healthy players, healthy community and a healthy planet.

The goal of the FAMEHERGAME program is to “increase visibility and build grassroots opportunities while creating a safe space for women competing in the FIFAe ecosystem.” Member associations from around the world that are participating in the program are being given the resources to hold dedicated boot camps to “provide unique chances for women to join FIFAe and build local communities.”

Additionally, one nominated player from each member association taking part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will be sent to the FAMEHERGAME boot camp hosted by FIFAe in mid-2023. At this boot camp, players will receive coaching sessions and compete for one of two tickets to attend the tournament in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand later in the year.

“Esports is for everyone, and it’s time to showcase our skills to the world! With FIFAe’s support, we are looking forward to developing the women’s game and inspiring the next generation of aspiring players,” said one of the scene’s most prominent women, Fabienne Morlok. “I’m calling all women out there to join us in writing history and challenging the status quo.”

This program is the latest of many efforts to create more opportunities for women and marginalized gender folks in esports.
