Touch Type Tale open beta and “KeySports” trailer out now

On Tuesday, developer Pumpernickel Studio and publisher Epic Games announced that they are launching a new open beta that is now available for their upcoming debut title Touch Type Tale — which will feature two prominent nonbinary characters, one in either faction — along with a new trailer for the game called “KeySports.” The open beta is available to download on the Epic Games Store now, and this time has multiplayer modes as well.

Touch Type Tale is a typing-based real-time strategy game that is focused on a young hero named Paul. With the kingdom’s throne sitting empty and barbarians pounding on the gates, Paul must go forth to try and save the day. He discovers that the ability to command armies is literally at his fingertips thanks to typing, and players can use this ability to help him strategically place warriors and beat back enemy invaders. The story mode has unique missions and scenarios that are designed to reflect the story itself. But this game isn’t just about combat. Players will also be able to use this unique typing mechanics system to harvest resources through activities like mining and farming.

Players previously got to sample the single-player campaign in the last Touch Type Tale demo, but now they will get the chance to mess around with multiple modes. These include the “robust” single-player campaign, competitive player-vs.-player battles, or racing to claim the top spot on the in-game leaderboard. During multiplayer versus matches, players will compete in skirmish battles , which include a replay mechanic and ranking system.

Perhaps most interesting of all, though, is the asynchronous language system in Touch Type Tale. This allows players to put the story into one language while putting the typing into another to practice fluency with a given language while still getting to enjoy the overall plot.
