Goodbye Volcano High gets June release date

On Thursday, KO_OP’s Goodbye Volcano High was featured in the most recent Sony PlayStation State of Play showcase, where the studio debuted a new trailer for the game and announced that it will release on June 15, 2023.

This is exciting news for fans who have been anticipating the game, as it has faced multiple delays now due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other difficulties. Goodbye Volcano High was originally supposed to release in 2021, but was delayed to 2022, with KO_OP citing the pandemic as the main issue. The team has also been dealing with harassment from alt-right 4Channers since the game was announced in 2020, with these people even creating a rival “fan game” using repurposed assets from the original. This has likely also contributed to putting the game’s development on the back foot.

That said, fans can now look forward to checking Goodbye Volcano High out on June 15. The game is a “story-driven, choice-based cinematic adventure game” that will also feature rhythm game elements. It is about an anthropomorphic dinosaur teen named Fang who has finally figured out what they want in life, only to find out that the world is going to end. Players guide Fang through their last year of high school before the apocalypse and make choices to help decide who Fang will become and how they will settle things before the end. This includes trying to write the best song ever, finally admitting their feelings to their crush, and trying to fix their messed up family dynamic.

Players looking forward to the game will be able to pick it up later this year on June 15 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac.
