EA has cancelled Apex Legends Mobile

On Tuesday, EA announced that it is halting development on both Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile. This news came alongside EA’s most recent financial results, with the publisher commenting that it has decided to cease development on Apex Legends Mobile because the “ongoing experience was not going to meet the expectations of our players.” The game released in May of 2022.

Respawn Entertainment released a separate statement elaborating on the cancellation. “Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game,” the statement reads.

“Although disappointing, we are proud of the game we launched, are grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and are confident that this is the right decision for players.
Respawn and the Apex Legends team remain excited about mobile as a platform and look forward to new opportunities to serve players there in the future.”

As of the 31 of January, the game entered a 90-day sunsetting window and all real money in-app purchases were disabled. The game was also removed from webstore platforms like the App Store and Google Play. During this 90-day period, players will still be able to spend any Syndicate Gold they still have and can continue playing the full game. On May 1 at 4 p.m. PDT Apex Legends Mobile will completely cease operations in all regions and will no longer be playable. All of the purchases players have already made will still be available to them until the game fully shuts down on May 1.

“Our love for the Apex universe and our players remains unchanged. We look forward to exploring this universe, its characters, and its stories along with you. In the meantime, we appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate these next steps.”
