Streamer Spotlight: psoymilk

The world of streaming has opened up new and exciting avenues for entertainment, with a variety of streamers around the world doing their utmost to foster communities and bring together likeminded people.

For LGBTQ+ streamers in particular, community, striking out against the norm, charity work and being a role-model is part of what makes streaming so fun and rewarding. That’s worth celebrating and to lead up to the Gayming Awards 2023, we’ll be highlighting each streamer who has been nominated for our LGBTQ Streamer of the Year, a category sponsored by Streamlabs.

This week’s Gayming Awards 2023 Streamer Spotlight is psoymilk.

Psoymilk is a non-binary content creator who is down to play any feel-good, comfy and cozy game you can think of, like Animal Crossing and Genshin Impact. If you’re looking for positivity and warmth, there’s no better channel.

How did you get into video games/streaming?

I got into streaming video games following a medical discharge from the Army. I had always wanted to be a content creator and finally got the chance to do so.

What is your favourite thing to stream?

I love streaming soft, cozy games with low stress along with high-stress FPS.

What can people expect from your stream?

People can expect soft gaming, chats about gender, sexuality, and mental health, and long-winded rants from an autistic who can’t and won’t ever shut up. /pos

How has your experience as an out LGBTQ+/QTPOC streamer been?

It’s been hard. That’s the simplest way to put it. As a black aro/ace and trans enby, I’m frequently invalidated and sexualized in ways that leave me confused and hurt. But I’ve also found so many amazing friends who counter those things so well and leave me feeling like I’m a positive representation of myself and the community I’ve cultivated. It’s bittersweet!

What do you do outside of streaming?

I’m a part-time counselor/therapist and social justice advocate in online spaces.

What do you enjoy the most about streaming?

I enjoy connecting with others in a space I can unmask without concerns for how I’m perceived. I am able to educate others, provide a soft and comfortable space, and I am now surrounded by people who want to see me become the best version of myself.

What have you learned about yourself through streaming?

I’ve learned that there is a world of people out there who can and will extend genuine kindness to others without expecting anything in return. I can also be myself, and I can extend love to others in a personal and unique way while representing LGBTQIA+ streamers who are like me.

What’s your main goal as a streamer for the future?

My main goal is to continue to foster a space build on kindness, authenticity, and growth.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

I look forward to my first content creator event: The Gayming Awards!

How does it feel to be nominated for Gayming Magazine’s Streamer of the Year?

It feels so overwhelming. The impostor syndrome I’ve experienced over the last 1.5 years has been completely shattered by this amazing nomination. I’m so grateful to the community for having nominated me. I hope I can do well by the community and continue to grow into the best version of myself.

How do you think it’ll affect your streaming to win Streamer of the Year?

I think that this may increase my visibility, and that’s a bit scary to me! I am happy that I was nominated for this award as it has allowed me to meet so many awesome LGBTQIA+ creators. I look forward to people seeing me as a Streamer of the Year if I do win, because that means they’ll get to see what a AAA battery (agender, aromantic spectrum, and asexual spectrum) black trans person looks like navigating a space that is white cishet-forward.
