Can you be gay in Fire Emblem: Engage?

Fire Emblem: Engage is nearly here, and already people are chomping at the bit to know whether the game will feature gay romance or not.

Fire Emblem has had a rocky history with how it’s handled same-sex relationships, with previous characters in games like Fates and Awakenings often feeling stereotypical. In Fire Emblem: Three House’s case, there just simply wasn’t enough of them. So it’s no surprise that people are wondering how gay relationships are portrayed in Fire Emblen: Engage. Or if there’s any in the first place.

Despite not being officially out yet, it’s no secret that the game has leaked across multiple social media platforms, such as Reddit, ResetEra, Twitter and more. Having seen the leaks ourselves and having it confirmed via our own sources, we’re happy to answer that all-important question for ourselves: can you be gay in the newest Fire Emblem?

Due to the nature of this article and the information being revealed, please do expect spoilers ahead. If that’s not for you, then come back at a later date.

Can you be gay in Fire Emblem: Engage?

If you’re looking to engage in a same-sex relationship with your companions, then you’re in luck! S-Supports have made a return, with Alear (regardless of gender) having multiple options to get to know their friends a bit better.

It should be noted however that, even with S-Supports, some of the relationships you form with the characters you meet are strictly platonic. We can only speculate that some platonic supports are largely to do with there being characters who are very young. On the other hand, some characters simply might just not be into you.

Regardless, those looking for a potential gay romance in Fire Emblem: Engage will be happy, as characters seem to be playersexual for the most part. To choose who you want to unlock an S-Support with, players are able to give any character they want a Pact Ring. Alear is able to get the Pact Ring through a paralogue near the end of the game, though it is currently unconfirmed which chapter the side-quest is part of.

Much like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the only unique feature that comes with unlocking an S-Support with a character is warm, fuzzy feelings and a nice-looking piece of art. Eh, we’ll take it!

Unfortunately if you more looking forward to the potential of grabbing your favourite Engage characters and making them smooch, then we have no good news for you. Previous games had paired endings that were explicitly gay, such as Dorothea and Petra’s in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Ike and Soren’s in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. That isn’t the case for Fire Emblem: Engage. A shame.
