World’s smallest citybuilder The Block is coming in December
On Monday, solo-developer Paul Schnepf (the developer behind games like The Ramp and ISLANDERS, also known as HyperParadise) and indie publisher Future Friends Games announced that Schnepf’s next project, the world’s smallest citybuilder The Block will release on December 16.
The Block is “a bite-sized toy” about building cities on a small scale. Instead of creating a fully sprawling metropolis, this game has players make a single, pretty city block. Players can build parks, plazas, towers, and houses by placing randomly generated tiles on a grid and see what springs to life. You can also choose the size of your level and what colors are included with it. Each little city block can be finished in a matter of minutes. There aren’t any distinct goals in this game, it’s all about chill vibes.
Schnepf previously worked with the Grizzly Games team on projects like Superflight and ISLANDERS. He went on to make skating game The Ramp on his own under the development name HyperParadise. The Ramp is another digital toy that Schnepf made to simulate the flow and feel of skateboarding, without any extra goals or challenges, along the lines of something like OlliOlli World, which combines the flow state of skateboarding with fun challenges that include different tricks and routes.
