Queer horror game Scarlet Hollow releases Episode 4

It may be the Christmas season, but Black Tabby Games are looking to celebrate this holiday season with a gift like no other: the release of Episode 4 of Scarlet Hollow.

The premise of Scarlet Hollow is a simple and spooky one. After the death of your aunt Pearlanne, players are left with no choice but to head back to your mother’s old estate, a place she left so very long ago and one that you have no real happy or fond memories of. You meet up with your cousin, Tabitha, the owner of your family’s crumbling and penniless coal mines, and are swept up into a mystery where love and the horror of the past collide in the most disturbing of ways.

The game’s previous 3 episodes have been well-received, with Scarlet Hollow being lauded as “one of the best narrative games I’ve played” from Kotaku’s John Walker, and described by DreadXP as conveying “the very precise, sweet spot of horror and humor.” We also enjoyed Scarlet Hollow’s masterful depiction of queer horror, and couldn’t wait for more.

More has come with Episode 4 of Scarlet Hollow, and things look to get even more dire than before. Considering all the crap that the player character and their friends have gone through already, that’s saying something.

The team at Black Tabby Games have chosen to celebrate the launch of Episode 4 by extending the Wayne plush crowdfunding campaign. The team have also decided to make the entirety of the Episode 4 soundtrack available on Bandcamp with the cost being pay-what-you-want.

Will you be playing Episode 4 of Scarlet Hollow? After all, nothing quite says Christmas like cryptids.
