Elton John offers new immersive experience in Roblox
In a combination that we didn’t see coming, LGBTQ+ symbol Elton John has unveiled his very own virtual world in a collaboration with Roblox, a global online platform where people come together to play games and share unique experiences.
Elton John is one of the top-selling artists of all time, and holds the record for the biggest-selling single of all time with the iconic ‘Candle in the Wind’. In the UK and US charts alone, the music superstar has 1 diamond, 32 platinum and 21 gold albums, as well as over 70 instances of Top 40 hits.
Not only is he one of the most successful music artists of all time, Elton goes above and beyond to support the LGBTQ+ community with his charity work. In 1992 he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, a non-profit that has raised over $515 million to date in the fight against HIV/AIDS. For all his work, he was awarded the Companion of Honour 2021, as well as the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest award, in 2019.
The virtual experience, titled ‘Elton John Presents: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road’, is now live. Created by Elton John,Rocket Entertainmen, and Roblox Creators with support from Universal Music Group (UMG), the virtual experience will offer fans a new, timeless way to enjoy Elton John’s iconic contribution to music history. Those who attend will also able to express themselves through Elton John’s fashion, with a digital outfit collection that has been designed in collaboration with more than 20 Roblox community creators. These outfits are Elton’s most celebrated fits and eyewear, and will include free items made from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Major League Baseball.
Fans will navigate through an interactive world, all inspired by Elton John’s life, but through the perspective of the Roblox community. This will include photographs of memorable moments from Elton John’s life, interactive challenges set to his greatest hit songs, trivia quizzes, and even scavenger hunts.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be launching Beyond the Yellow Brick Road on Roblox. I’ve seen the joy that Roblox has brought to my boys, and the possibility it creates by the ability to interact with fans in such an exciting and forward-looking way has been mind-blowing to me.” Elton says about the virtual experience. “I’ve always been myself and used my image, eyewear, and music to express myself, and Roblox really encourages that self-expression. Now my fans can do the same, and that’s really exciting. At every step of my career, I’ve always wanted to push forward and look to the future, and Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is the next step on that journey as I prepare to step away from live touring after 50 years on the road. It’s genuinely thrilling, and I can’t wait to see the response from my fans and the Roblox community.”
Fans who are part of the Roblox community are also invited to a special performance taking place within the Beyond the Yellow Brick Road experience. It will start on November 17th, with additional performances re-airing hourly through November 20th. This series of ten-minute virtual performances will offer all fans from all over the world an entirely different way to experience Elton John. And what’s more, all of it will be available to watch on Roblox.
