Fans and developers have collaborated on new Tomb Raider animated short, Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa

A writer from the Tomb Raider series, along with the voice actress of Lara Croft and fans have joined forces to create a new animated Tomb Raider short film that ties up the loose ends of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness called Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa.

This movie essentially functions as a replacement for the the fifth installment of this series, as Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation was the fourth and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was the sixth. During The Last Revelation, Lara ends up trapped under the ruins of a temple, leaving her fate uncertain. The Angel of Darkness continues the story much later, and several of the scenes that addressed what happened to Lara after being trapped in the ruins were cut. So, The Myth of El Hawa aims to fill those blanks back in for fans.

Written by Murti Schofield, who wrote the story for Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, The Myth of El Hawa will provide a canon explanation for what happened between that game and The Last Revelation. Jonell Elliot, who voiced Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness, is returning for this film. It was directed by Ash Kaprielov, who has previously worked on other Tomb Raider projects like Replay Events’ Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary Core Design QA at Play Expo Manchester 2016 and Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel Symphony, an orchestral music album. The film premiered in-person at the Derby Quad Theatre, and later on YouTube, where it’s now available to watch.

“Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication from some of the biggest Tomb Raider fans in the community and those responsible for some of the most popular instalments of the series,” Kaprielov said at the film’s premiere. “I’m incredibly excited to finally be putting the animation out into the world, and I’m sure that fellow fans are going to love what we have created.”
